Additive effects of Zamzam water in reducing fasting blood glucose and LDL-cholesterol in rats fed on a ketogenic diet

Purpose The ketogenic diet (KD) has gained popularity due to its ability improve type 2 diabetes, weight loss, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. However, long-term use of the KD might not be safe adverse effects. This study examined effects alone or in combination with Zamzam water (holy for Muslims) on glucose homeostasis, lipid parameters oxidant-antioxidant variables rats. Design/methodology/approach Based given ten weeks, three groups adult male Wistar rats were made (12 rats/group): (1) which fed a chow ordinary water, (2) (3) along Zamzam. Fasting blood (FBG), serum insulin, insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), LDL cholesterol, HDL superoxide dismutase malondialdehyde compared by one-way ANOVA followed post-hoc Tukey’s HSD test among groups. Findings Rats had significantly reduced FBG cholesterol ( p -values 0.001), -value 0.004 0.006, respectively). Serum resistance, did differ significantly. Originality/value Consumption weeks reduces cholesterol. does decrease these duration.
